Committees

The Opportunities in Surgery (OiS) Committee and its sub-groups are responsible for a number of different work areas.

Committee Overviews

The main OiS committee oversees all aspects of careers support on behalf of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The committee is openly recruited from RCS members and fellows from across the UK with a variety of interests and career pathways.

The Women in Surgery committee looks after issues relating to women and works with the Women in Surgery group to address issues and support women wanting to enter and already working in surgery. The Women in Surgery committee is recruited from the network of members and has representatives form across the grades from medical student upwards.

The Staff and Associate Specialist Committee has two Co-Chairs; a member of College Council and one a surgeon elected by the other Committee members. The elected Co-Chair of the committee sits, as an invited member, on the College’s Council. The committee is openly recruited via a national advert.

The Medical Student Liaison Committee consists of student representatives from the UK Medical Schools Surgical Society.
