GMC Registration

In order to work in the NHS in any capacity, including training posts, you will need General Medical Council (GMC) registration.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) can apply to the GMC directly for provisional or full registration without an offer of employment beforehand. However, the GMC applies rigorous criteria in determining whether registration should be granted. For more information about GMC registration, including the PLAB you should contact the General Medical Council on 0161 923 6602 or, from outside the UK: +44 161 923 6602, or, visit the relevant section of the GMC website

Please note that the RCS does not provide surgical training equivalence certificates, 'Certificates of Equivalency' or letters confirming that any overseas qualification is equivalent to the MRCS.

Visiting overseas doctors requiring temporary full registration to provide specialist services should look at the Visiting Specialists Page
