Running Events

There are a number of events you may want to organise. Below are some ideas and tips on how to get started. The list is not exhaustive and if you need extra advice or would like to talk an idea through the Opportunities in Surgery team have experience in this area and are happy to help. There are also some template check lists to help with large events and a budget planner to help keep an eye on costs.

General Planning

All events need planning. Be generous in your timescales, it is better to start too early than rush an event – it will show. Use checklists to keep on top of tasks and allocate jobs to a team. Remember that most surgeons organise their diary far in advance. It is better to ask a speaker or facilitator to a specific date and time than speculatively ask for convenient times. The former is more likely to result in an event the latter a vague promise of help. Make sure that you have booked facilities before inviting speakers. Ask for help if you are unsure of how to proceed.
