This is your first opportunity to sell yourself to the University. The most important part of your form is the personal statement, which will tell the admissions tutor about you, why you want to study medicine and why you would be good at it.
Some basic things you can do to ensure your statement is as good as possible include:
- Use examples to demonstrate your experience or interests
- Explain what your examples add to your application e.g. 'I have been captain of the debate team for 2 years which has given me an opportunity to develop leadership skills.'
- Balance academic and extracurricular activities
- Check spelling and grammar - avoid slang, keep sentances short and make sure your spell checker is set to UK English.
- Keep within the word limit (4000 characters)
- Don’t lie!
You will also need to show how you know you are suited to medicine and stand out from the crowd, work experience will be vital to this.
